I think the chances of us playing 4 at the back based around our recruitment this summer is zero. I'm fairly confident after Tuesday's game Pep has zero control over the team sheet and he is the fall guy for Dong Ren who is defacto manager.
The teamsheet will be
Camp
Roberts Dean Pedersen
Colin Seddon
Sunjic Crowley Gardner Villabel
Jutkiewicz
Lots of pretty passing and no final cutting edge- we fluked a result last season we will get a thumping 0-3

If ever you needed to see a tactical performance to show why Pep Clotet should never be considered a permanant manager- then there it is.
In the first half in particular lots of pretty passing very little penetration- thats what you get when you are playing in to Jukes feet rather than playing to his strength which is indeed his aerial ability as soon as a cross goes in the box he scores a goal.
Then what follows is where Pep really fcuked up!
Taking off Dan Crowley who overall has possibly been our player of the season so far to bring on a defender- that totally changes the shape and drops our pressing by 15-20 yards and gives Bristol time to pass around us and find space we quite simply caved in. Staying in the 4-4-1-1 would have seen the points safe but he invited unnecessary pressure on us.

Media and pundits called for it. Now they have it. Does spoil the game. Let me correct that Pundits get a career out of talking nonsense- so they have called for VAR so they can talk more nonesense. Goal line technology yes that's a good technological advance my fear is referees are going to use VAR as a stick to beat smaller teams within the premier league with at expense of the big boys.

Yes, you can certainly see marginals, like Sterling's goal today, going against the less favoured clubs in key games. Of course it is- that was the reason why it was really invented- to stop freak decisions swinging games towards the bottom half of the table when they are playing top half teams.

The failure to replace the most important player lost from last season Che Adams has obviously left a bitter aftertaste on what was otherwise an interesting window with fnally some apparently quality ball playing midfielders arriving.
Having looked through the free agent pool for players that can still be signed imo the one standout that's available is Gary Hooper. He's had injury niggles for a while but is undoubtedly a natural finisher and capable if staying fit, of doing a Billy Sharp for blues if we could get him here.
Of the rest Frazier Campbell is a decent player though never really prolific and Wilfried Bony in a single live appearance as sub I saw last season looked very good, though I suspect very high wage demands and tbh his scoring record his last 3 seasons in this country leave a lot to be desired but in that cameo he was clearly still retaining a high level of ability.
Can't really speak too much to foreign freebies so going on the ones I have seen Hooper would definitely be my first pick followed by Bony then Campbell.
Of course another issue is that like Montero there's probably a big question mark about just how fit these players might or might not be having not been contracted to a club through pre season.
Lets have a look at some of the free agents available 1.) Mario Balotelli - He wouldn't come anyway and we would have to be literally mad to offer that loose cannon a contract! Wage demands would also be to high. 2.) Daniel "Sicknote" Sturridge - He would want £100k a game and would be on the treatment table 6 months every year of the contract- offer 20k a week pay as you play contract if he doesn't accept look at other options. 3.) Frazier Campbell- a more realistic suggestion- getting on a bit , beggars can't be choosers get him on a contract until Jan then release him. If he scores more than 2 I'd be surprised. The rest look relatively shit.

Until TV in general, and Sky in particular, began to influence the football authorities the golden rule was that all of the laws should be applicable to every single level of football, from the World Cup to the Sunday leagues - this was always cited as the reason why the clock couldn’t be stopped for injuries etc so that everyone watching top class football would know exactly when the match was due to end. That golden rule has now been thrown out of the window - except in the timing of matches. So we have these interminable delays while it’s decided whether a player was 2mm offside, but we still don’t know when a match is due to finish. Another reason not to watch Sky and BT for EPL matches. Absolutely
