The government has comletely withdrawn its plans to close down ticket offices. A great victory for common sense and the British people. Fought for by mick lynch and the RMT union. I hope it sends a message to the foreign states running our private railways tht the british workers have still got a bit of fight left in them despite the anti union laws stacked against them. well done all involved in opposing the closures.

I agree. The lies perpetrated by the Tories and Tory press about British Rail being a basket case, a shambles, unreliable etc etc just so they could justify privatisation of BR and the sale of it to foreign states are exactly that - Lies. Our rail was second only to Sweden in the whole of Europe for reliability / performance when it was sold off. Now we are subsidising Italian, Dutch, German peoples rail travel through the extortionate fares the British people are being charged. scandalous!

Governments and Whitehall have history of running nationalised companies poorly so I would start with just one for now. The one industry thats crying out to be taken over is the water industry. Don't ask me how this could be achieved as all privatised industry now have shareholders. So much finance would be required. Where you would get that from only Starmer would know.

If you want it state owned it must be 100% independent from Government so the senior management isn't jobs for friends. One thing I'll say I'm not dead against it but based on the current climate can we justify spending countless billions on doing so and then again maintaining it and subsidising ticket prices?
