The season has been a disaster on the pitch, and it’s predominantly self inflicted which is what makes it so disappointing. The new owners have done wonders off the pitch, but one decision has cost us dear. If they hadn’t done what they did, we wouldn’t be here imho. The players were doing ok, but the Rooney debacle has exposed their weak mentality and it’s never come back. I’ve come to expect and accept relegation now, if we dont, great, but this group of players don’t appear to have the right mentality. It will put us back, yes, but I don’t fear relegation as I would have in previous years. Yes, it’s not easy to get out of League 1, but nor is it to get out the championship, and we were all confident Knighthead would give us the tools to do so. I fully expect them to invest again in the summer, no matter the league. Obviously there will be a difference in players we can attract, but with Mowbray in charge and a good budget, I expect us to be hard to see past for one of the two automatics.
Some of our players have crumbled this year, but again, we know they have more than enough quality for league 1. The likes of JJ, Paik, Miyoshi and bielek will go, as will the loans and frees of course. But I think Buchanan, Laird, Sanderson, Hall, Roberts, Chang, Donovan and Bacuna are all good enough to be amongst the best players at that level and with their contracts, we will be able to keep them. Supplement with a GK who can kick the thing, a real leader at CB, a midfield general, and a couple of strikers with presence, and that should be a team more than good enough to get ourselves out at the first attempt. Admittedly lost of ifs and buts, however, it’s the reality we are looking at. Long term, I think we could establish the new philosophy of ‘prettier’ football, with the above players coming back to the championship in 18 months time more experienced and more confident, with the board able to spend on further recruits to improve again. Glass half full and all that!

Identifying this crash was way too easy.
Said it ages ago and we look doomed today like a proper fuuckec up team just waiting for the inevitable.
Players are a bunch of weaklings. Teams are finding life comfortable against us. We don’t create a lot and even today it was a close game but did we really hurt them at all?
I’m a bit surprised we still played out from the back today? I was expecting to see us be a bit more in your face.
Interesting to hear Rowett talk about time to show some character. He’s right this lot have dust flowing round their heads.
You only have to look at how MILLWALL woke up and battled their way from oblivion, they ain’t safe yet but they look far more capable than before and all they have done is gone direct anc in your face.
QPR another one that just started giving a shit.
Over 6 games apart from Rotherham we are the worst and over 10 games only Plymouth and Rotherham are the worst.

And there was me thinking it was only Rooney that forced us to play out from the back.

I more think Rowett is being told to keep it like Mowbray style.
I know one thing I would have the biggest cull this club has ever had if we go down.
Can't think of a single player I would like us to keep!

Can't think of a single player I would like us to keep! That's the opposte of what Rowett's words and actions have said in giving Ashley Cole and Shuttleworth different roles less involved with players and bringing Carnall in to join his other coaches because he doesn't want confused messages but just his message, if he was just carrying on Mogga's stuff there wouldn't be any confusion.
Also Rowett has specifically said that Mowbray told him to do it his own way which definitely isn't Mowbray's way. Fans are pointing to us still playing out from the back and putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5, where the reality is we're playing out from the back because there's no bloody target to hit by going long. In fact the only remotely long ball that had any modcum of success was out wide to Laird who won most of the balls pinged wide out to him to head on.
I've said before there's not many younger than me on here so most should remember us playng multiple games with Darren Purse, Magic Johnson and/or Paul Mardon up front because we had no options at the time and in the main they did quite well. It's why I've suggested trying Aiwu up there who like those three has some physicality and pace but maybe Laird could be another option given he's got a decent leap. I'm not suggesting we'll find our own Paul Warhurst but what we're doing with Stansfield just sn't working and other teams now find it too easy to defend against us, we're just not a threat and we need to think differently and shake it up.
EDIT
Longelo another one I'd consider to play up there, pace, can score, decent size and can certainly pass given some of the beauties he was knocking forward when in the team last year.

There's something with Longelo. He looks a decent footballer, but a defender he is not. Possibly (although I'm not totally convinced), he could fill the number 10 role.

I’d have a punt playing Gardner up top.
He’s decent with his feet and a good enough size.
Play him up there as a target man and have Jay playing off him

Longello would work LW/RW for me. More physical and a target.

I can’t believe we are in a situation where we are having to consider playing centre backs, left backs and central midfielders up front.
If that’s not a damning indictment of the club’s recruitment strategy then I don’t know what is.
