www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68844583To be honest I think the smaller clubs are being a bit wet over this. How many clubs have to fit replays in and push league games then try to cram them in. They seem to have no consideration for the fans as this means more games to pay for. There is more money being put in as well and when the TV contract comes up for renewal then selling result guaranteed TV matches can increase the request for cash. Also plenty of teams have had big teams cornered and may have won had they not gone to a replay to then get mullered! I'd go further and scrap extra time because I reckon in my life I have seen extra time maybe watched about 250 extra time games of which only about 10% of them was worth bothering with so straight to penalties increases shock results. They will say these big clubs are not taking it seriously but that's a mad statement. In 50 years if you was to look for a final that does not contain United, City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs or Chelsea then you will probably find 5 finals like that. Personally I would have invited them to chuck £25m more in for the highest ranked 8 clubs (In Europe) to join in round four. Why shouldn't we support our teams improving qualification for europe (although I leave them twats down the road out of the statement). They could focus that money for prizes for teams from qualifiers to round 3 as that would easily compensate the gripes. I still think to reinvent the cup tickets should be restricted to a max fee to get fans back to going to these games as well.

Might as well skip the 90 minutes as well and just go straight to penalties. FA Cup days used to be a big highlight on my calendar, years ago, but now going the same way the League cup did. Just can’t be bothered anymore.

I think the smaller clubs have a legitimate argument tbh. The FA cup is the best cup competition in the world because of how it works to allow teams from the humblest backgrounds to enter.
I personally think this restriction on replays should kick in from the 3rd round. Why rob the little clubs of another glory day?

Cup played exclusively on weekends then 4th round played over multiple days including weekdays. Sums it up when they contradict themselves

Personally dont kind the replays being scrapped and would probably agree to get rid of extra time aswell. The lower league teams in general dont win in extra time i would guess at as a general rule of thumb.
Here’s an idea tho, if you are 2 leagues below the team you draw in the cup. Automatic home leg. Love watching the bigger teams struggle at the smaller stadiums. Although not sure if this would actually mean a loss in revenue for the small non league clubs when they come up against prem / champ teams.

Don’t really get the furore over this tbh
If a club gets a big team they can switch grounds anyway and get the pay day
If they play it on their own turf then they stand a chance of an upset

Add to that, replays have been fine for year's. Why change it now?

I think something needs to be done....that so many non PL clubs treat the early rounds with contempt and play their second strings That we managed to get 7,133 for our very own replay this year - suggest that they arent quite the attraction people think they are

I think that years ago anyone in the top 2 leagues believed they could win the FA Cup. Today, even half the Premier league believe they can't. Added to that the importance of Premier league/ championship survival and promotions. I agree that something needs to be done regarding teams playing Micky Mouse sides. It's a shame we can't give whoever wins the cup a champions league spot. That might improve things a bit.😁

I feel for the smaller clubs who rely on the replay money, but can’t help but feel this is inevitable.
There was a report I read the other day, can’t remember which website it was now. But basically saying that the amount of football the players have to play these days is pushing them to breaking point. Injuries are happening at an increasing rate and becoming more serious.
Pep Guardiola came out the other day and said Rodri personally asked to be dropped because he was exhausted. You’ve then got players, at the top level at least, doing a full league season, domestic cups, Europe and then international commitments. It’s way way too much. Something has to be done and this is just the beginning.

They know what they are getting into when they sign for the big clubs and play at the highest level.
