I know it’s only Panama but there is something special about the blend of this team.
Bcm square in maga was rocking with joyous disbelief at what we witnessed.
Still on the fence until England beat a proper team. But moving walker to centre back is a smart move.
Trippiers delivery from free kicks is amazing and to say they have worked hard on defending and attacking set plays is an under achievement.
Clearly Southgate realised that tight games can be won if you are clinical from dead balls.
I actually allowed myself to imagine what it would feel like to win it.

A great result and a good performance. The Belgium game should tell us a lot about this team. We've done really well so far, much better than I thought we would.

The young players are certainly hungry and want to prove themselves. I don't think it matters that it was only Panama, the old England team would have scored 2 then just passed the ball around for the rest of the game.

Problem with Belgium game is that we don’t know what each teams mentality is and the full strength teams may not be played so it could cloud it.
I would still play more or less full side but maybe consider not play booked players and perhaps give Young a rest as Rose needs to get match fit in case we need him later

It will be interesting to see if Alli comes back in. As I said earlier, he’s a good sub for me and not a starting player.

Nice to get 6 goals of course, but is it just me or was the second half performance pants? We drew the half one all and the England goal was a fluke. No penetration, giving the ball a2ay in midfield (Delph... why?!!,), static defence... once Panama realised that they were playing Football not tag wrestling it was the same old England. To be fair, Kane was class and Lingards goal was fantastic (even ruhen Young managed to give the Ball away until it ricocheted back to Lingard). If we get Columbia they will tear us one...

Never rated or wanted Southgate but credit where it's due, I think he's got them playing well with arguably one of the least talented England squads I've ever seen. One major concern for me though is we've played two of the tournament's weaker teams with very little up front and conceded to both. There's also in both games been some loose play in our defensive third, you have to consider stronger teams could have punished us more severely.

Yes ^ ^ ^ And the seemingly weakened Belgium team, also, will not be a good test. Martinez said before the Eng v Panama match, that as Belgium had already qualified, their next match would see a big change in personel. 'If we had a week 10 days for recovery, perhaps not. But with 3 or 4 hard knocks to players, their best chance is rest and recovery. There will be changes, quite serious changes before our next match" {England obviously } BBC
Unfortunately our most serious opponents will be in Round-of-16. However, this confidence is good for the players I reckon, as long as it is low-key and managed.

I'm not sure I buy into the least talented squad thing. There's clearly no superstar flare player ala Bale for Wales, but most of that squad hold down their postion in some pretty decent teams. Kane is certainly a goalscorer like Shearer or young Owen. The much maligned Jordan Henderson has developed into a great workhorse midfielder and very much a leader on the field. There's a lot of potential in some of the other players out there too.
The media and fans vastly over rated some of the old guard, Terry, Lampard and most of all Rooney, all good on their day but not world class by any stretch. The new crop haven't been sadled by that expectation and I think it's to their benefit.
Our defence does look wank though to be fair. But if the back 3 let us get in on goal more often but concede the odd few, so be it.

I think there's a lot of truth in what you say and tbh I don't think we've often had world class defenders (and still don't) but without turning into a 'good ol days' merchant I think back to players like Hoddle, Le Tissier, Gascoinge, Scholes, Gerrard, Beckham, Sheringham, Ashley Cole, John Barnes (though like Sterling struggled to reproduce club form at int level) and feel most would walk into this side.
Never a huge fan of Owen, but Kane right up there with Shearer and Linekar for me. Rooney's a strange one, top goalscorer, undoubted ability but so many times I felt we'd be better off without him, he didn't get much love and probably deserved more, yet for someone who likely had more natural talent than the likes of Sheringham, Scholes and Beardsley I don't recall any of those having as many annonymous or even downright 'stinker' games as he did for England.

And at club level too Bubbs. His goal droughts throughout his career were incredible and as a United friend of mine always observed, he would always suddenly come into form right as his next contract extension was about to be negotiated.
As for defenders, I always thought Ferdinand was top draw, because he had the basics down, but could also play the ball and had decent pace for a CB.

Ha, watching the bbc panel discuss the game at full time I was thinking to myself oh to have Ferdinand in this team.
