" Hello ,hello ,it's good to be back " . Having served the 48 hour ban imposed by moderator Monkeyman , I have returned to find the politics section of the board closed , just as Monkeyman wanted . I fully intend to comply with the new rules especially as it seems the blame for the closure has been laid partly at my door , aided and abetted by Tony Hancock. However , I would like to make a few points before laying down like a newly castrated Labrador puppy. I would like to think that my post is left alone as it won't contain any personal abuse or political opinion , and therefore complies with the rules of the forum. I fully admit that my behaviour on the forum over the last week has been very childish and has deliberately been designed to provoke Monkeyman . In this respect it has been a resounding success . However ,I'd like to explain why I chose to do this . A week or so ago , I joined in to an up and running discussion and noted the poor driving skills and blatant disrespect of the rules of the road by drivers in my workplace locality of Small Heath . Because I described the persons in question young Asians ,as all of the ones I'd seen were indeed, young men of Asian descent , Monkeyman called me a racist .I was not prepared to accept that the statement I made was racist and on the evidence of that single statement Monkeyman had no right to call me a racist .I sought the opinion of Will , an educated man who despite being of opposing political views to my own ( please note ,I'm not expressing a political viewpoint ) and a childish wind up merchant himself , I felt could be relied on for and impartial opinion. Will's lengthy reply seemed to conclude that whilst my opinion might be construed as racist ,it actually wasn't . I , along with a couple of other posters thought that the cries for a shutdown of politicital discussion was due to the fact that Monkeyman , Blueintheface and Will ,et al , having had free rein to spout their political agenda for months unopposed , suddenly didn't like the fact that they were being challenged. Accusations of racism can always be relied upon to shut down political discussion .....Again ,please note ,no actual political opinion being expressed .....It seemed the muck really hit the fan when ,rather childishly , I interupted a thread that Will had posted regarding Chinese ownership of Wolves and the relationship to HS2. I interjected with a snipe at Will .I was reprimanded for posting political stuff on a football related thread. I'd wrongly assumed that foreign investment and HS2 might be political , even if just to make a jocular remark ! It was actually pointed out to me that in the world of Monkeyman , a warning about letting Chinese business invest in English football clubs should be deemed racist too , but never mind. ......A few days after making a forlorn plea to ExPat John to totally ban political debate , in a thread about WBA ticketing arrangements ,Monkeyman expressed an opinion that The West Midlands Police were "full of shit " . Now, I know that wasn't a political statement , per se , but couldn't it be construed as one ? As Monkeyman had labelled me racist on the strength of an opinion that could only be construed as racist I decided to highlight this slip of the finger on Monkeymans behalf at every opportunity . It was this that got me my ban . Monkeyman claimed that he banned me for posting a political opinion on the main board but to be honest ,that's just rubbish . On the thread about farting ,Will had said that it was a pity that there wasn't a limit about how much you can talk about politics . there followed quite a lengthy good natured debate about our opposing viewpoint which didn't result in a warning to either of us let alone bans. No, when Monkeyman got fed up of my constant sniping about his slip up ,he banned me ...simple as. When I was banned , I used a computer at work to log on as a guest , Geoff Scott . I posted a couple of things nothing nasty ,malicious or abusive but again highlighting what could have been construed as political in a world full of Monkeymen. These posts were deleted , I assume by Monkeyman . A post then appeared under the guise of Geoff Scott which actually was partly witty . Again I have to assume it was Monkeyman , this time pretending to be me .He said he was Barry Scotts brother and with the aid of Cillitt Bang had removed the "dirt ". Hardly the words of a man who objects to personal abuse .Come to think of it ,where was the rebuke for the poster who suggested that " the SHA cnuts should f**k off back there "......There I've my say , no personal abuse , no patronising ( " never mind Bluenoserob , you'll soon have your little chum back ) no foul language , just a genuine attempt to put the record straight ..............................and actually believe it or not , I don't have a problem with Monkeyman . I'll stop short of apologising for my behaviour ,but at least I've admitted to it.

Just to clarify, regarding the comments about driving standards in Small Heath, I made it clear that Southside’s opinions on this subject were indeed, in my opinion, racist, and suggested that if he didn’t wish to be labelled as such, he should avoid making such sweeping statements.

Why you want to talk politics, peoples driving abilities or HS2 on a football forum is beyond me
If I remember correctly MM's actual comment was in reference to who decides the ticket allocations
and the comment was "both club and WMP are full of shit" because they both blame each other.
As for being a WUM, well get out more, meet women, find a hobby, maybe something to do with politics, peoples driving abilities or HS2

I edited my post to include “in my opinion”. I argued my reasons why last week. Frankly I’m sick to death of it now - I’m not going to change my opinion, and you’re not going to change yours. That is one of the reasons why the political board has perished. |

He called it how he saw it and tried to clear his name regarding his motives. He then, possibly unwisely, added that the politics section haters were enthusiasts before people started calling them out. He then pointed out some people can call people nucts without censor (he could have expanded on that no error). I think it was his attempt to clear the air and move on. The decision was taken to get shot of him, and I don't see that being rescinded any time soon. Fair play to the forum, at least all is there for people to see. |

It is unacceptable to call someone a racist simply for making comments that can be construed as racist. If you take this to its end point, ssb is a sexist, ageist racist.
As such, we have a mod calling someone a racist without reliable evidence, and then banning the person when the person gets offended at the slur.
I've also been called a racist for comments on a forum by trigger happy morons who don't have a Scoobies. Frankly, it is a highly offensive accusation.

But at this stage I think we can only do any future appeal more harm than good. The decision has been taken, it's not our forum, and at least it's all out in the open, as opposed to another forum. There should be credit given for that. We'll see what the future brings. Everyone can change their mind over time. Personally, it's not the place I thought it was, but it is what it is, and the powers which be should do what they think best. |
