Visited there yesterday for the first time since on the way back from an away game in the 80's when we were escorted out of there by the OB. First time i've really walked about the place and we popped into a couple of pubs in the town centre. What a strange bunch of people they are up that way and what a horrible feckin accent. Won't be rushing back!

Lichfield's most famous son, Samuel Johnson (who said who is tired of London is tired of life, and then retired to Lichfield) was showing some London friends round, who remarked on the number of people not doing anything except getting pissed in the local pubs.
The great man turned to him and exclaimed "Sir! We are a city of philosophers... we let the drudges of Birmingham work with their hands" The Tourist Board has a boundary sign that states "Lichfield.. City of Philosophers". I dont think they appreciate the irony..,
